Now there’s a question for you!
These days, it’s evident to me that the vast majority of people are on a quest to be more spiritual. Which is great!. You just need to check out your social media news feed for proof of this.
Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest are filled with pictures of oracle cards and crystals. Witches are no longer persecuted and hunted but instead have their own Instagram accounts and are sharing the way of the witch with confidence and authority.
And collectively we are putting a big old dollop of woo-woo into the world, and I think it’s fabulous.
We still don’t spend enough time taking care of ourselves.
We apply a lot of pressure to ‘upgrade’ our spirituality and almost act in competition with the spiritual person next door. And the power of creativity is not being realised as much as it should
So can Mandala Art make you more spiritual?
Let me tell you a bit about my journey, and then you can decide for yourself.
As with most people I’ve experienced good times and bad times in my life, and as I’m human, some of the effects of the lousy stuff has taken some shifting. In my opinion, anything that leaves a mark on you regardless of how big or small others think it is (because it’s not their stuff) needs to be worked through and dealt with.
Getting creative is my medicine, but I didn’t know this for a long time. In fact, it’s only been the past couple of years since I started actively using creativity to heal.
I actually stated with adult colouring books and the release I felt dedicating colouring time to myself each week was amazing. I then wanted to take it further, and Mandala art came onto my radar, and I began by copying pictures from the internet and watching YouTube tutorials. And bingo, now I show others how to do it too.
Not sure what Mandala art is?
Then check out a few of my own creations below:
Anyway, let’s get back to the question of spiritual growth.
In my experience Mandala art has aided my development in this part of my life for many reasons.
- I find the act of creating a mandala meditative – in fact, as someone who struggles to sit still and meditate in the ‘conventional’ sense, I feel like I am meditating while active. Similar to how a yoga flow gives you that meditative vibe.
- It slows my mind – I’m naturally whizzy, my brain goes at a million miles an hour, and sometimes even I can’t keep up. The problem with this is that my brain space feels like it’s in chaos. Mandala art slows me down and allows me to put my thoughts into an order which can be interpreted and worked with.
- I see the world differently – You know how when you buy a new car and all of a sudden you see the same car everywhere you go? Well, it’s a bit like that with Mandalas. I now see Mandala shapes everywhere in nature, in my home, on the internet, in magazines and in buildings and architecture. Once you’ve entered the world of Mandala’s you can’t un-see it…..which is a good thing.
These are just a few of the things I’ve experiences which have specifically aided me in my personal spiritual journey.
So, in answer to the question, can Mandala art make you more spiritual, then from personal experience, I have to say yes it can.
