Moon Phase Art

with Galaxy

I have to admit that this one was a bit of an evolution. When I started, the only thing I knew was that I wanted it to relate to how I felt about working with the phases of the Moon.

It was important that it didn’t feel sterile and instead was able to really help me connect with the Moon and her energy.

I really feel I’ve managed to accomplish this, which is great.

So, let’s take a look at how the journey evolved.

To begin with, I needed the structure, and really for the phases of the Moon, the options are to have the Moons either in a row or in a circle. For this piece, I chose to go with the circle.

I then began with the central galaxy which was a bit of an experiment for me as I’d not done anything like this before and I am so pleased with how it turned out.

I could really feel myself being drawn into the movement of it which was amazing to create.

I had no idea at all how I was going to display the Moon except that I wanted to include the Moon surface detail in each phase (yup I know, I don’t make things easy for myself).

I am really pleased with how it turned out as the way I began the Moon took me straight into creating the Steampunk style frames around each one. I do love a bit of Steampunk!

Finally, the completed artwork is then scanned onto my computer and digitised ready to create high-quality prints for sale in my shop. I really love this part as it feels so professional.

Materials Used:

The original was created on Hot Press Watercolour Paper. The design was sketched out in pencil and then inked using Micron fine-liner pens.
