How to Work with this Phase of the Lunar Cycle
When is the Waxing Crescent Moon Phase?
The Waxing Crescent is the growing phase of the Moon from the dark New Moon (1 of 8) moving towards the bright Full Moon (5 of 8).
In modern astrology, this is as soon as the moon becomes visible again after the New Moon (0.1% illumination). However traditionally in witchcraft and working with the Moon phase energies, this is halfway between the New Moon and the 1st Quarter which is approximately 3.5 days after the New Moon (15% illuminaton)
Yin and Yang Moon
I was recently reading about working with the Waxing Crescent in the modern world in Lunar Abundance by Ezzie Spencer who talks about the Moon phases relating to Yin (passive) and Yang (active) energy and I found this really fascinating.
Through this system, each of the eight moon phases alternate between Yin and Yang energies. For example, the New Moon would be Yang and therefore active, and the Waxing Crescent would be Yin and therefore passive.
The reason I bring this up is to address the issue of balance. During the four week Moon cycle, we work from New to Full which is primarily about getting things done. Then as we complete on the Full Moon we then move onto releasing, resting and recharging as we head to the next New Moon.
However, two weeks of action followed by two weeks of no action isn’t practical these days and instead, we should use the changing of the Moon phase (eight times in four weeks) to reflect for a moment before moving on.
This is how we can use a Yin energy Moon phase and a Yang energy Moon Phase in a passive way if you catch my drift!
Make sure to stop, reflect and then move forward during this time as it’s better for your energy and stamina.
It’s all about the pause and not the push!
What is the Waxing Crescent Good for?
- Visibility: 0.1% – 49.9% (or use 25% – 49.9%)
- Duration: 3.5 days to 7 days after New Moon
- Keywords: Movement, Action, Move Forward, Courage, Faith
Now is the time to take action and move things forward based on the seeds you’ve sown, the wishes you’ve made during the New Moon for what you would like to manifest during this moon phase.
Remember nothing happens without action!
This is the time where you can benefit from:
- Taking that first step into action!
- Creating a to-do list and cross the first thing off as complete (ahh satisfying)
- Putting plans into action
- Making sure you are working towards your goals and not wasting time.
- Breaking big projects down into small manageable steps to work through during the lunar cycle. This is a great way to prevent overwhelm
